On November 12, 2024 from 12-2, nearly 100 people gathered to celebrate the grand opening of the Community Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Parma Heights, Ohio. Guest enjoyed tours of the new facility and a light pizza lunch while socializing with friends, old and new. At 1pm, Dr. Jennell Vick, CHSC President & CEO talked with everyone about how historic this new site is for the community and how the Community Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing makes the Cleveland Hearing and Speech Center vision possible, by ensuring equitable and inclusive access to all that the community has to offer.
Dr. Vick described plans to complete a community-driven redesign of the space to best meet the needs of the community and that CHSC would launch a capital campaign to fund the renovations. Tim Skaggs, Director of the Community Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, welcomed everyone to the new Center, noting that the entire team is here to serve. Amy Hudak, chair of the CHSC Deaf Action Committee, shared plans to develop materials to improve health literacy about diabetes for the deaf community. Marie Gallo, Mayor of the City of Parma Heights, welcomed the Community Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to the City and noted that the Chiefs of both the Fire and Police Departments were present, along with the President of City Council. Finally, Chase Conklin, Aide to US Congressperson Max Miller, presented the Community Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing with a commendation.
The entire group counted to three and the ribbon cutting was complete!
